   Where We Are

April/May 2006

Ok, so I had this big prayer letter written and ready to print and mail and everything, but then I thought, ‘Hm, I don’t like it...too much stuff and fluff and not enough to the point information.’ So here it is.
We’ve been busy traveling, presenting our ministry in several missions conferences and spent a couple of weeks in Toronto with the launch service on Easter, KidFest 2006, planning church activities, looking for housing and we really got caught up in all that. It was certainly frustrating looking for housing. Oshawa is the sort of town where, when you read an ad in the paper for a 3 bedroom house going for $850 a month all inclusive, you know it’s in a bad part of town or it’s a piece of junk! Doubt and frustration set in, and I (Melissa) really started to get upset. We want so badly to be in Toronto in June of 06 (that’s just a month away!), but looking at the financial situation, it’s just NOT possible at all! How could this be? The Hamiltons are so excited to have us join them, we want to get there and start our ministry yesterday. What’s going on?
Sometimes in our Christian walk, we get caught up in ‘us’and not enough ‘God’ seeps into our lives. We get busy with work,or kids or school or whatever, that we neglect our devotions, prayertime and sometimes we forget that God is watching us and continuing to be faithful to us, even though we aren’t even acknowledging Him. I (Melissa again) have been doing just that and have wondered why God isn’t answering my ‘prayers’ to get to Toronto here and now. He is certainly teaching me patience, but I think He’s also humbling me and letting me know that His timing doesn’t match up with mine.  And while I sometimes dislike this process called deputation, it’s a learning, stretching and growing experience. He’s molding me for my ministry at Affinity. And while I thought I had enough learning and growing in Vancouver, He’s still got more in store for me. I’ve got such a long way to go on this journey we call Christianity, but that’s ok. I know “He’s still workin’ on me’ to make me the best ‘me’ I can be, and I’m thankful He’s still watching me, even though sometimes I’m not watching out for His hand.

Here I am at the Zoo in Seatle

Me and Kendall Hamilton on Easter!

I’m 18 months old now and have really come into my own lately. I can say dada, bye bye, uh oh, and I sing the B-I-B-L-E, which mommy and daddy think is just so cute. I spent lots of time with Kendall Hamilton recently and had a great time playing with her. Mommy thinks I’m growing because I’m eating as much as an adult and it makes people laugh to see how much I eat! Thanks for praying for me, mommy and daddy! I can’t wait to move to Toronto!
