Our TestimoniesRex Harmon
Before I received eternal life I was active at Fellowship Baptist
Church,
Perryton, Texas, attending youth meetings, all church services,
and even
teaching a Sunday School class, grades 1-3.
While teaching Sunday school
I realized no matter how my life compared
to people around me, I was guilty before God.
I knew if I died before
asking Christ to save me, I would go to hell and rightly so.
At the
end of our church service, opportunity was given for each of us
attending
to personally talk with the Lord, asking
His forgiveness for our sin, asking Christ to come into our heart
and
save our soul.
I walked down the aisle at our church,
knelt at God's altar and prayed to
God. He heard me, forgave my sin and made me a child of His,
a child of
the Lord God Almighty. He gave me eternal life and all that comes
with
knowing God--the desire to study His
Word and learn to know Him better each day, and
the Holy Spirit dwelling in
me, giving direction, giving a strong desire to share God's love,
giving
the personal peace that comes from knowing God has a place for me
in heaven.
Since asking Christ into my heart,
I have realized that before asking Him
to save me I had a form of godliness--yes,
I was a good person as far as
the world was concerned, as far as other people were concerned,
even as
far as Christians were concerned, but
I was denying God's power. All I was doing was in my power, not in
the power
of the faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave His life
for me
and you. Now, when I teach a Sunday School lesson, preach,
and share Christ,
I can see the power of God working
in the hearts and lives of those listening.
You see, as His child, God
can work through me, changing peoples lives so that they can say
without
a doubt, like I can:
I had the privilege of being raised in a Christian family in the
small town
of Haven, Kansas. My parents, as well as my grandparents,
have led lives
consistent with their commitment to Christ.
I am so thankful to God
that he placed me into this loving family.
On April 16, 1967, shortly before my 6th birthday,
I realized that although
my parents were Christians, I needed to make a personal
decision myself
to accept Christ as my Savior. I was saved that Wednesday night
after
prayer meeting, at the Haven Baptist
Church, Haven, Kansas, under Pastor James Lambert, and later,
Pastor Marvin
Valdois.
Growing up in a faith-promise missions church,
I have always been familiar
with missions. Although I never imagined God would use me,
I am thrilled
that He is allowing me this opportunity to serve Him in Jamaica.
