Earthquake Relief Effort

February 1, 2010

Hi friends,

Thursday night Jeff Garrison and I went to the airport to pick up my son-in-law Daniel Schagel and Dr. Bill Nesbitt. We got a few hours of sleep and headed toward Port-au-Prince early Friday morning. We met up with missionaries John Webb, Edwin, Gary Hale and Chad Justice in Jimani, Dominican Republic, and crossed the border into Haiti. We arrived at Leny Funtecha's church in the afternoon, set up our camp, met up with BBFI missionary Tom Franklin who had been in Haiti for a week checking on churches, pastors, distributing aid, and organizing so we could receive other aid to distribute, and met with local pastors.

Saturday was busy. We went in different directions checking on churches and, checking on the warehouse, etc. We took Dr. Nesbitt to the UN hospital to work.

Sunday I was able to preach and we had two saved. We got a bunch of food down at the base and were able to distribute food to about 200 people after the evening service. We gave each person two emergency survival meals, which serve six people each, or approx. 2400 indiviaul meals. I interpreted for Gary Hale who preached the evening service. Jeff and I went to pick up the doctor at around 8 o'clock and I was able to work there some as an interpreter and pray with some people.

Today, Monday, we unloaded the truck of relief supplies we brought with us and distributed food (7200 individual meals), water, clothes, hygiene packets, relief buckets and tents to the local pastors for their churches. I also went to the UN Base again about food for the people and meet several other people in the food chain.

We thank you all for your prayers and generous donations during this difficult and tragic time for Haiti. Pray that the Haitian people during their time of physical hunger and thrist will have a deeper hunger for The Bread of Life and The Living Water--Jesus Christ.
