Wesley & Melina LaneWesley and Melina met while in college in New York. They dated while at college in Boston and then were married in Flint, Michigan, on June 29, 1985, one year after Melina graduated. They were both working at the Calvary Baptist Church at the time, Wesley as an assistant and Melina as a teacher. Their first child was born in 1986 while in Baltimore. Wesley was ordained at the Calvary Baptist Church in 1986 and the couple was commissioned as missionaries at a special service in April 1987. The degree they received from BBCE (a private college) is accepted at more than 25,000 churches in the U.S. and abroad. They have both continued their education through correspondence courses, video courses and seminar attendance. Wesley and Melina applied as missionary candidates in December 1986 and went to Springfield, Missouri, in 1987 to complete the approval process. They were approved in May and immediately began deputation to raise support. After a little more than two years on the road, during which their second child was born, Wesley Lane went to Haiti in September 1989 to find a house for the family. Melina and the children followed in November of the same year. The couple worked as missionaries in Haiti from 1989 until 1998 when they moved to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. They continue to oversee projects in Haiti while learning Spanish. Rev. Lane has been monitoring two mission churches in the frontier area for another missionary who is on furlough while getting adjusted to the new country and preparing to embark on projects of his own. |
