Donna grew up in church, with a family there
whenever the doors were open. She based her salvation on
what people had told her and the vague memory of a prayer said
when she was 4 during an Awana meeting. Her family loved
having missionaries stay at their house during missions
conferences and she learned to love foreign peoples and cultures
from an early age. At age 8, she was baptized and during the
missions conference came forward saying she was willing to be
used of God as a missionary.
Time passed and the teenage years arrived, along with the
divorce of her parents. The divorce had left her angry at
God and bitter. She quit on God, the church, and just
about everyone else. Graduation from high school left her
directionless, only knowing that she had to go to college
somewhere. Deciding at the last minute to enter a state
school, she began college. Two years later, she had hit rock
bottom, wondering what the reason was to get up every morning.
God brought a young lady into her life who evidenced the joy of
the Lord. Donna remembered the days of being in church
faithfully and following the right paths. It was the last
time she could actually remember being truly happy. God
had providentially placed a good independent Baptist church only
a block from her apartment. She decided to attend a
service, but left frustrated and angry having spent so much time
in the world that God’s ways seemed impossible and too
difficult. God worked on her heart over the next six
months and she found herself again in this church.
Suddenly it all didn’t seem so hard and within a short time,
she’d joined the church and was spending time with Christian
friends. Their influence, the clear teaching of the Word,
and the strong foundation built when she was a child led to her
seeking assurance of her salvation. At the age of 22, she
knelt by her bed, asking God for once and forever to accept her
as His child, forgiven of her sins because of what Jesus was
willing to do for her.
