Prayer Letter
February
2008

Dear friends,

PETCANCHE: We have seen a lot of fruit lately for which we are very thankful; fruit that abounds to your account!

A couple of weeks ago we were able to baptize 4 new believers. Also, since our last letter 5 have accepted Christ as their Savior. Your prayers for Carlos and his two sons, Carlos Jr and Eric, as well as for Angel and Karla are appreciated.

David is a teen that our girls befriended through their daily rides on the bus to and from school. He has attended church services only a few times, but has been attending youth meetings for a few months. He trusted Christ as Savior at an all day youth activity earlier this month.

Manuel Vargas has been the treasurer for the Mexico BBF (CBBM) for as long as I can remember. Part of his responsibilities include seeing to it that all the CBBM missionaries get their support each month. He and his wife Edna were guests in our home as he came to preach for our Missions Conference. Each message was a blessing. The commitments showed that our missions offering should more than double this year.

INSTITUTE CLASSES: The students are grappling with a basic Greek course which is designed to whet their appetite, if nothing else. The videos from Oremex continue to be the basis of our studies but we get guest teachers and preachers as often as is feasible.

WORK GROUP:
We just had a second work group from Ox-bow Lake Baptist come earlier this month after having come this last summer! They are hard workers and have been a big blessing to all of us here. Audio-visual help, computer help, sewing, woodworking, and of course, the never ending cement/concrete work… it was all a big help to us. Thank you!

MELCHOR OCAMPO:
(Reyes)
Luis and Geny have not seen a lot of fruit at this new work. We have called it “Reyes” in other letters because the area is better known that way, but technically, it is in the Melchor Ocampo neighborhood. Please pray that the Lord blesses their labor here. Several people from Petcanché are helping them by at least attending services there. But it can be discouraging to work and see no results.

FAMILY: Girls are fine and very busy. Emily graduates from High School this spring and we appreciate your prayers for her as she decides where and when to study.

Your friend,

Richard L. Smith
